What is Pickleball?

Pickleball is a racquet sport that combines elements of tennis, badminton, and ping pong. It’s played on a rectangular court with a net in the middle and can be played indoors and outdoors. What sets Pickleball apart is its accessibility to players of all ages and skill levels, making it a perfect choice for newcomers and new citizens looking to engage in a friendly and active community.

Rules of Pickleball

Court and Equipment

A Pickleball court is smaller than a tennis court. It measures 20 feet by 44 feet, with a net set in the center. In this space, there is a non-volley zone within 7 feet on both sides of the net referred to as the Kitchen. You cannot stand in the Kitchen when volleying.

Players use solid paddles and a plastic ball with holes when playing, which helps to slow down the game.

Serving

The game starts with an underhand serve diagonally that must land in the opposing court. The ball must also bounce once on each side of the net before players can hit volleys. If playing doubles, both players on the serving team can serve and score points until they commit a fault (except for the first serve of each new game).

Scoring

Pickleball uses a simplified scoring system, and games are typically played to 11 or 15 points. You must win the game by 2 points. You can only score when you serve, and a point is earned on every rally. Before every serve, the server must announce the score and the number of the server (1 or 2), which is chosen at the beginning of the match. At the beginning of the game, the server makes the first serve announcing “0,0,2″. This means that the score is 0,0, and the second server is serving.

Doubles Play

Pickleball is often played as doubles, which promotes teamwork and social interaction. It’s a fantastic way to make new friends and connect with fellow newcomers.
