Do you have a driver’s licence from another country?
If you already have a driver’s licence from another country, you may be able to expedite the process of obtaining your Ontario driver’s licence. Countries that apply at this time can be found ici. Le processus pour commencer est ci-dessous :
Validez votre permis de conduire à l'étranger
If you have an out-of-country driver’s licence, visit an Ontario Driver and Vehicle Licence Issuing Office with your current licence. If your licence is not in English or French, you must also bring an English or French translation that has been officially signed. Once validated, you can directly apply for the G2 or full G licence without waiting for one year at the G1 level.
Test de connaissances G1
If you are able to exchange your out-of-country driver’s licence and you have 2 or more years of experience driving, you may only need to a vision test. However, if you have driving experience, but are not eligible to exchange your out-of-country licence, you will need to take the G1 knowledge test. This includes information about driving laws, parking laws, and so much more! Prepare for the test by studying the Official MTO Driver’s Handbook, which contains essential information to help you ace the exam. You can access the handbook ici.
Progression vers les licences G2 et G
After validating your out-of-country driver’s licence and confirming your level of driving experience, you gain the opportunity to directly apply for either the G2 or G licence (which are the road test portion required to get your Ontario Driver’s Licence) without having to wait the typical time period allotted to learning to drive. This marks the final stride in your journey, allowing you to confidently hit the roads and relish your newfound independence.

Test de connaissances G1
Before you hit the road, you need to prove your understanding of Ontario’s road rules and traffic regulations by passing the G1 knowledge test. This is the starting point for your journey toward an Ontario Driver’s Licence. Study for the test by reviewing the Official MTO Driver’s Handbook. You can access the handbook ici.
Essai routier G2
After successfully passing your G1 knowledge test, which becomes more manageable with thorough preparation, there’s an initial waiting period of at least 1 year before you can proceed to your G2 road test. During this 1 year, you can drive with a teacher in the car who has experience and held an Ontario Driver’s Licence for so many years.
However, there’s a silver lining – you can reduce this waiting time to just 8 months by enrolling in a certified driving course. Opting for a certified driving course isn’t just about expediting the process; it’s a valuable opportunity to enhance your driving skills and build confidence on the road. These courses encompass a wide range of practical driving skills and road safety knowledge, ensuring you develop a comprehensive understanding of Ontario’s driving regulations. Once you’ve completed the required waiting period and/or driving course, you’re eligible to take the G2 road test!
Obtenir la licence Full G
After successfully passing your G2 road test, you’ll have more freedom and less driving restrictions than you had with the G1 licence. However, you still have to hold your G2 licence for a minimum of 12 months before the final test! During this time, you can drive on your own to gain more practice with a few restrictions in place. Once this period has passed, you’re ready to embark on the last leg of your journey – obtaining your full G licence. This pivotal licence grants you the freedom to drive independently and invites you to explore limitless driving possibilities throughout Ontario and beyond.
By following this step-by-step guide, you’ll be well on your way to obtaining your Ontario driver’s license and embracing the convenience of driving in Canada. As you set forth on the open roads, remember to make safety your utmost priority and relish every moment of your driving experience!
