Forges du Saint-Maurice National Historic Site
exclusive access
This Historic Site contains the remains of Canada’s first industrial village. In Mauricie, halfway between Montréal and Québec City, discover the remains of Canada’s first iron industry. Enter the Grande Maison to admire the iron and cast iron pieces made at the Forges, then stop at the blast furnace to learn more about this community of artisans who, for 150 years, provided the objects necessary for the development of the colony and its defence. Follow the stream and take a breath of fresh air as you walk the nature trail along the Saint Maurice River. Plan your picnic and take full advantage of the vast site, which is like a green oasis surrounding the rich history of the Forges . . .
